Cardiff, Wales I can't really say that I have visited Cardiff, but I have been there. considering I took a 12 hour bus ride from London to Cardiff, only to be in Cardiff for less than 24 hours... Nevertheless
Irish Giant This photo of a 'fossilized Irish giant' was taken at a London rail depot & appeared in the 12/1895 issue of Strand Mag. The giant was found by a Mr Dyer while looking for iron ore in County Antrim. It was 12' 2" (3.71 m) tall, weighed 2 tonnes & had 6 toes on its right foot. After a showing inDublin, it came to liverpool & Manchester England, attracting all kinds. After a legal dispute over ownership, nothing more appears to have been heard or seen of the exhibit.
Gustave Doré and Blanchard Jerrold, ‘London: A Pilgrimage’ // Yet another engraving from this 1872 book; the view overlooking dozens of tiny Victorian "gardens" (or what passed for them, for the lower classes). Love the use of light and shadow, the oppressive walls and stone.
