Domestic Goddesses make 'Blancmange'. .It used to be a celebratory dish & if you make it from scratch,using quality ingredients,it tastes lovely. milk-cream-sugar-gelatine-sweet almonds (blanched & crushed into a paste)-lemon rind-drop almond extract. It was an upper-class dish common to Europe in the Middle Ages to modern times.Mentioned in the prologue to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales & in a 15th century cookbook written by chefs of Richard II
I love (what I think is) an old jelly mould that has been used as a container for these snow drops. I love spring bulbs, they are our first indication that the worst of winter is almost behind us. A little concentrated grouping is just heaven..
