Unusual Dutch-style house on the Berkshire Downs This extraordinary building with a dolls'-house appearance nestles in a beautiful valley on the Berkshire Downs, surrounded by woodland. It was built by an Earl, William Craven, as a house fit for the queen he loved, Queen Elizabeth of Bohemia in 1662.

Corsham Court, Wiltshire. The earliest known records of a house at Corsham date back to 978 when the house was a summer palace for the Kings of Wessex. The property subsequently became part of the dowry of the Queens of England until Elizabeth I granted a leasehold interest following which Thomas Smythe (one of her subjects) erected an Elizabethan manor house on the site. Smythe's house was completed in 1582 its construction forms the core of the property today.
