The Sleeping Goddess Photograph by The Lost Gardens of Heligan Located on Woodland Walk, in the Lost Gardens of Heligan, is an amazing sculpture of a sleeping goddess entitled ‘Mud Maid’. The incredible larger-than-life sculpture even has grass and moss growing atop it. Heligan was a sprawling thousand-acre estate in the UK…
Hedge? The grass used for these amazing feathery hedges is Pennisetum alopecuroides Hamelm. Maintenance is easy, the plants are just cut down in spring with shears and then they will grow to acheive their full potention by the end of summer. Wow.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan Heligan, seat of the Tremayne family for more than 400 years, is one of the most mysterious estates in England. At the end of the nineteenth century its thousand acres were at their zenith, but only a few years later bramble and ivy were already drawing a green veil over this "Sleeping Beauty". After decades of neglect, the devastating hurricane of 1990 should have consigned the Lost Gardens of Heligan to a footnote in history.
