Artist's Profile: Joan Hardie Artist's Statement My aims are to produce ceramics that encourage people to look afresh at the natural world and which are lively, interesting, accessible and affordable. My work is inspired by natural textures, colours and forms, particularly from trees, ferns, lichens and fungi. I enjoy trying to capture something of the feeling of a natural subject in clay, so that the ceramic piece becomes a celebration of nature.

Tree display - love the twisted paper effect. I tried this using crepe paper - not so effective, still looks good though. This one looks like parcel wrapping paper

Tree that I made in my classroom. It's bulletin board paper all scrunched up. It's stuffed to make it 3-D. We call it the peaceful tree. Children are encouraged to sit by the tree when they are in trouble, sad, angry, tired, etc. There is a library & clipboards for kids to write/draw their feelings.
