A blood test can detect cancer using high-voltage electricity. Place a liquid crystal (sensitive to electricity) on a microscope slide and a drop of blood on top. Poke an electric wire in the middle and turn on the current. Iris-like, electric-field patterns swirl through the crystal, with different voltages making different colors. The pattern depends on the types of cells in the sample. Normal blood cells produce very different patterns to cancerous cells.
