Crescent-shaped gold pendant called "kokke thathi" from Coorg, a region within the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu (a great region for jewelry!). A traditional ornament of the region: the most precious marriage present of the future married wife. While symbolising elements of nature, the crescent reflects the Muslim infuence in the region of Coorg. The length is 12.3 cm, and it appears to be 20th c. See pp. 148-9 of *Inde: Bijoux en or des collections Barbier-Mueller* (2004).
