“Hands up we got it wrong,” says Tory leader of Peterborough City Council after cuts were blamed for an increase in anti-social behaviour at Central Park. A decision to reduce maintenance in parks and cemeteries by 25% was agreed by the council for its 2015/16 budget to save £100,000. Residents and Tory councillors/activists in EYE are not happy with plans for 250 new homes! Despite the fact that the new homes were included in Tory controlled Peterborough City Council’s draft local plan up until 2036, agreed by Tory councillors? Tory Cabinet member for resources Cllr David Seaton, member for Hampton Vale, was sympathetic as always stating, “You’re concerned about 250 homes but we have 10,000 in my ward - 6,000 in Haddon and 4,000 in Hampton Gardens.”…

Changes to benefits "disproportionately affected" disabled people, the UN Committee on the Rights of Disabled Persons (CRPD) found. The UK was the first to be investigated under a UN convention it has been signed up to since 2007. One of the findings for the UK included: "Disabled people were regularly portrayed negatively as "dependent or making a living out of benefits, committing fraud as benefit claimants, being lazy or putting a burden on taxpayers"…
