How to put up a traditional hoist up marquee

There are many different opinions on how to put up a marquee. This is mine. Some methods are better. Most are not! http://curlew.co.uk/cat/191/traditional-or-pole-marquee

Secure the main pole with the three ropes. Normally two behind the marquee and one in front. You can remove these when the marquee is up. However you must re install before taking down because once the marquee roof is half way down the main pole the pole will topple and kill some one.
I would go around the marquee several times making sure every side pole was to the correct tension. When the roof is tight, hang the side walls and peg down.
When all the side poles are in start putting tension on the roof. Pull the bottom of the side pole into the marquee (this lets tension off the guy rope) Take up the slack on the guy rope and put the side pole upright. Once you have got this technique you will be able to put sufficient tension on marquee guy ropes to pull the pegs out of the ground! You will know when you have enough tension on the roof when you feel above the side pole and it feels taught.
Pull the marquee roofs (ends and middles) into place. Hoist the ridge poles up above chest height and secure (my marquees have cleats some marquees have holes in the main poles)
I normally put around half the side poles in. Make sure they are very loose as you will not be able to pull the roof up.
Pull the roof square (use the middle eyelet lined up with the main pole to center the marquee) Put the peg in 1/2 a side pole away from the roof. Tie the guy ropes onto the pegs and put the side poles around. Then start with the into wind side of the marquee put the side poles up and attach to the guy ropes. This takes half the weight off the roof and makes it easier to get underneath.
Place the main poles at right angles to the ridge poles with the bottom of the main pole in the bail ring of the ridge pole. Put the pegs in the ground for the main guys. Fit the hats to the main poles
Get under the marquee and pull on the ropes to lift the roof.
When the roof is up. Center the marquee roof before making the guy ropes tight. When the marquee roof is centered then fill in the side poles. Making sure that equal amounts of poles are put in around the marquee as uneven side poles at this stage will pull the roof over to one side.
Tie the roofs together at the top. (some marquees are bolted together)
With one person footing the end of the main pole, lift the pole upright.
Attach 3 main ropes to the pin on the main pole and lay the rope parallel to the main pole.
Lay the 20' ridge pole along the intended line of the ridge. If the marquee has more than one middle section overlap each ring on the end of the ridge pole.
Work from the center to the edge
Start to join the roofs together
