Catherine was the King's fifth wife, tying the knot just three weeks after the Henry's brief marriage to Anne of Cleves was annulled. It also came on the same day as Thomas Cromwell's execution. The union between Henry (49) and Catherine (probably 19 at the time of the marriage) ended when the King was informed of allegations made against his Queen regarding liaisons. #OTD in 1524, Henry VIII was injured in a joust against his friend, Charles Brandon. Despite Henry's love of the sport and experience - contemporaries suggest he practiced almost every day - it was a dangerous sport. On this occasion, Henry did not lower his helmet visor and he was struck on his right brow, causing Brandon's lance to splinter and scatter wooden fragments. The King was otherwise unharmed, and Henry laughed, insisting it was no one's fault but his own. 📸 The Times
