Anne Butler
The latest Craft NI Object of the Week are these 'Small Eclipse Bowls', by Anne Butler Ceramics, and was chosen by Work Placement Student, Clare Nicholl. "I love Anne’s work from the simplicity of the bowl shape and the monochrome colour scheme to the translucent and delicate nature of the pieces. I love how the surface patterns on each bowl are different yet they come together beautifully as a set."
Jakki Trainor
This week, Orla chose Jacki Trainor's 'Peacock No. 1' as the Craft NI Directory Object of the Week. Orla says, "Jakki’s work concentrates on ceramic sculptures, and this part of the peacock range is delightful, the striking colours, the bold patterns, the stylised interpretation of the bird. This would make a wonderful, fun addition to any interior or exterior." Find out more about Jakki and her work on the Craft NI Directory.
Rachel O’Neill
For the latest Craft NI Directory Object of the Week, Rhiannon chose 'Polka Chandelier', by Rachel O'Neill. Speaking of her choice, Rhiannon says "Visually, the vibrant and bold colours really appeal to me. I really enjoy the beautifully curling and coiling material gently bunched and teased together to create lighting. Rachel O’Neill’s work really intrigues me to know these beautiful and delicate lighting pieces are made from Velcro!?"
The Stone Art Gallery
For the latest Directory Object of the Week, Orla chose 'Memory Lane', by The Stone Art Gallery. Orla says: "I am always drawn to colour and texture in a craft piece, and 'Memory Lane' perfectly mirrors the beautiful October days we are enjoying, where green makes way for gold and orange. Copper wire roots curl around a piece of real driftwood, these mixed media pieces are delicately beautiful, the maker process reflecting the imagery they depict."
Ellie Niblock
'Alluring' by Ellie Niblock is the latest Craft NI Directory Object of the Week. Chosen by Aaron, he says "I'm drawn to this piece not only for the bright shocks of colour, but becasue it's such an unusual and exciting object. Aesthetically, it seems to communicate a tactile quality that I find, for lack of a better word, 'Alluring'. Find out more about Ellie and her work on the Craft NI Directory
Eva Walsh
For the latest Directory Object of the Week, Aaron chose 'The Handless Maiden', by Eva Walsh. Aaron says "The Handless Maiden completely contradicted any preconceptions I might have had about glass art. It's contemporary, yet manages to utilise a traditional technique, much to the benefit of the aesthetic. It's reminiscent of the earlier work of Gilbert & George in some respects – fragile in form, visually commanding, focused; uncomplicated."
Lauren Scott
For the latest Craft NI Directory Object of the Week, Meadhbh has chosen 'Forget Me Not (Patchwork Mouse Sculpture)' by Lauren Scott Artist. Meadhbh chose the piece because "Lauren Scott’s weird and wonderful creatures are like something that Tim Burton would create for a BBC drama and they are so full of personality. They’re fun and each one tells a unique story. Love them!" To find out more about Lauren and her work, visit the Craft NI Directory.
Andrea Spencer Glass - Craft NI
For the latest Craft NI Directory Object of the Week, Rebecca chose Andrea Spencer's 'Mermaid's Purse'. Rebecca says, "I love the delicacy of Andrea’s work, and the translucent, almost ethereal, qualities of this piece. It is so fine and intricate, and I love how she reflects, and indeed incorporates, elements of the natural world in her work." Find out more about Andrea and her work on the Craft NI Directory
Eamonn Higgins
Aaron chose 'Whatever Fruit No. 5' by Eamonn Higgins (Hot Milk Forge), made with mild steel (deconstructed and reassembled) with copper spray and patina. Aaron says, "I love the bold nature of the sculpture. It's beautiful in its seemingly chaotic make-up, but it in reality, it's a complex piece of work that took meticulous planning and execution. The juxtaposition of structure and subject is compelling." Find out more about Eamon on the Craft NI Directory.
Julie Scott
For the latest Craft NI Directory Object of the Week, Aaron chose 'Eleven Fading Sisters' by Julie Scott Ceramics. Aaron says, "This piece is arresting in its spectral beauty. It emanates an atmosphere of melancholy, and while seemingly wrought with emotion, the very creation of it could only be celebratory – whether through the particular techniques at play, or the potential for meaning to be found far beyond face value. A quiet, reflective object of immense consideration."
Mark Hanvey
The latest Craft NI Directory Object of the Week is this pair of 'Pith Vessels' by Mark Hanvey and was chosen by Rebecca. Rebecca says, "Simple, pure, and organic: Mark’s superb craftsmanship allows the natural beauty of the wood to shine through in these fine sculptural vessels." Claire Newell Ceramics
For the latest Craft NI Directory Object of the Week, Orla chose these bowls by Claire Newell Ceramics. Orla says "I adore the colourful vibrant design and surface texture patterns on these stunning porcelain bowls. Claire’s designs are contemporary and would enhance any interior. An added attraction for me is that Claire takes her pattern and design inspiration from the natural world."
Katie Larmour
We're bringing it back, as they say. That is, Craft NI's Object of the Week. For this reincarnation, Sharyn chose this 'Cole' Cushion by Katie Larmour Design. Sharyn says of her pick, "Katie Larmour’s simple, striking aesthetic allows the linen featured in her work to be the focal point of her beautiful textiles." June Campbell Ceramic Designs
The latest Craft NI Directory Object of the Week comes from June Campbell Ceramic Designs, a new addition to the Directory, and was chosen by Aaron. Speaking of June's 'Luminaire Bowl', Aaron says "I'm fascinated by the juxtaposition of texture and colour - there's something organic about the form of the piece, and it's so effectively reflected by the choice of glazes applied. A beautiful piece."
Ann Smyth
The latest Craft NI Directory Object of the Week is this stunning glass piece, called 'Angel', by Ann Smyth Stained Glass and was chosen by Alan. Alan says, "I have selected this as the object of the week as there are so few makers working with glass in this traditional fashion but with a contemporary twist. I like the simplicity of the object and its links to a long established tradition." Find out more about Ann and her work on the Craft NI Directory.
