Painting The Grayt Cow | Original Painting
I painted my first outdoor piece of art, The Grayt Cow, on a 9’ x 8’ pressure-treated wooden panel made by local artisan William Whalley. I then sealed, gessoed and painted with Golden Acrylic Paints and sealed with UVA varnish to protect her from the Florida sun. This painting was inspired by a trip to Camp Helen State Park. It was a lovely spring day painting with the Emerald Coast Plein Air Painters. I was located way in the back of the park, just before the bridge, overlooking the lake and tree stand to my right. My on-location painting from that day was the inspiration for the 2 larger, more abstract paintings that followed. Get your giclée print today!

Landscape Painting Time-Lapse | Fog
On a foggy morning in March 2020, I drove past Allen Lake. It too was in fog, but a lovely tree in the middle of the lake stood out. I thought for a minute and turned the car around, stopped at Stinky’s Fish Camp and took some photos of the lake. Later in the studio, I looked back at the photos and cropped one that looked promising. Could I translate this beautiful foggy feeling into a painting? I saw it. And so it came to be in the Coastal Dune Lakes collection. Get your giclée print today!

I was driving west at 5pm on old 98 in Destin when I saw it. The sun, low in the sky, peeking through the storm clouds and lighting up the beach. That was me up on picnic tables, running around like a fool taking photos before the moment was gone. And I got it! It was a perfect compliment to a commissioned series I was working on. A closer look at 'Henderson Beach' - part of The Southern Skies Collection, inspired by my travels around the south. I am very intrigued by night time paintings. The challenge is how to paint something that has very little light. This view in back of The Henderson Beach Resort was dark. Everything was in shadow except the last bit of pure light. I loved the contrast. 3 1/4" x 8", oil on paper, framed in a 8" x 16" Douglas fir shadow box (no glass).

A closer look at 'Topsail Hill' - part of The Southern Skies Collection, inspired by my travels around the south. I’ve painted several paintings from Topsail Hill Preserve in the past. This scene has been marinating in my head for a while. The view was from the trail, overlooking the scrubby foliage, walking bridge, sand dunes and out to the gulf. I love all those elements together. It is such a unique and beautiful coastal environment here in NW Florida. 24” x 48”, oil on canvas.

This is a painting you may recognize. I’ve painted it in larger versions, but this is the original study in oil on paper from which the others came. I was teaching an oil workshop in Boca Grande, FL. It ended about 4 pm that day. I decided to go out to the beach to get some fresh air and was delighted to see this storm rolling in. The contrast between the brilliant blue water and the storm clouds was my inspiration. 13 1/2" x 21", oil on paper. Check it out!

This painting is part of The Southern Skies Collection, inspired by my travels around the south. It was the overwhelming blue that got me on this one. My intention was all about the color. I used it to tell the story of this late afternoon view of the Destin bridge. 3 1/4" x 8", oil on paper, framed in a 8" x 16" Douglas fir shadow box (no glass). Check it out!
