BAM undertook the construction and design for the new home for the University of the Arts London on the site of the Grade II listed Granary buildings and Transit Shed at King’s Cross. The buildings were used as a grain store and distribution centre during the Victorian era. The interior of the university building was significantly reconstructed as contemporary facilities, featuring exposed concrete and large open spaces. Hilden Grange Preparatory School
Hilden Grange Preparatory School A playful environment for serious education Arriving outside Hilden Grange you’d be forgiven for thinking this was a typical little Victorian Prep School, with its sharp red-brick gables. But beyond the original building – converted from a large house – lies a highly inventive, 21st century addition that nonetheless sits comfortably in its surroundings.

BAM refurbished the Grade II listed South Thames College to bring it up to the standard of a new build extension it completed under an earlier contract. The extensive works gave students at the College in London far more modern and attractive facilities throughout. We worked with a conservation officer to carefully restore flooring, tiling and a large oak staircase to their former glory. BAM worked at all stages of design and construction to unify the refurbished and newly built facilities
BAM is building a new home for 1,450 pupils at Strood Academy in Kent. We designed the Academy around a central street leading to clusters of teaching rooms. This gives easy navigation for pupils and helps staff structure departments. A three-storey terracotta blue entrance gives the buildings more prominence and grandeur than their predecessors. The project is targeting a BREEAM Very Good rating with sustainable features that include an on-site windmill and natural ventilation.
The Brammall Music Building, University of Birmingham. This project marked the completion of a 100-year-old vision for the University of Birmingham. BAM created a building for the institution’s Department of Music to fit into a vacant slot in a crescent designed by Edwardian architects Aston Webb and Edward Ingress Bell. The front of the building matches its Grade II listed neighbours, with hand-made bricks and a curvature fitting into the crescent.
