Something I learnt recently is that a scent isn't just all the notes you love. It has to have a story. 📖

The story behind my jasmine and honeysuckle candle started in early autumn in 2020 when my mentor Suzie was working out of a Greek villa with trailing flowers climbing up the walls. 🌺

This time last year, I redesigned my candle so I can make them myself with coconut and soy wax. 🥥

Jasmine and honeysuckle is a scent that makes me feel nostalgic for past summers, and that all is well too. Not just florals, smell carefully and you'll find top notes of green tea and citrus, a heart of honey and a base of smooth woods and musk. 🍵

3 best candle tips for choosing your candle and taking care of it

1. Try coconut wax for an eco-friendly and vegan candle. Coconut trees capture carbon and can be grown without deforestation 🥥🌴 2. Check for phthalates on your candle's label. They mess with our hormones and are easy to avoid, but more common than you'd think! 🙈 3. Lastly, give your candle time to melt evenly. How I made my first batch of jasmine & cedarwood candles

And these took me AGES! Thanks to everyone who pre-ordered - your candles will be on their way soon. ✨ I'd best describe this scent as what you'd want when you open a window in your home in spring - trees outside, eucalyptus, cedar... trailing jasmine and a cosy hint of cocoa. Well, that would be a very special window! 🌿🌸 If you're local too, I'm bringing my candles to @annieandlolo's market in @goodsheds Barry this weekend so you can come smell them for yourselves. A handy tip I had from my last market was to sniff coffee in between candles to cleanse your palate. Have you ever tried? ☕

How I make my lime & mandarin candles

My first batch of lime & mandarin candles! 🍊💗 You've been asking me for a citrus candle, so here it is - fresh lime and sweet, mellow mandarin with herbal notes of basil, spicy caraway and my favourite base... woody, sweet patchouli and earthy vetiver. 🌿 As you can see, my batches of candles are tiny! This means they take more time, but I only make the candles we need to minimise waste. Something I've learnt on the way! Which scent would you go for, citrusy or woody? 🌸

The best bit is, they're entirely recycled. ♻️ You'll need: Your collection of old candles and a silicone muffin or ice cube tray, decorations, string and some pliers.

Pack my first 100 candles with me

Yesterday I finished up a big order for a subscription box - now that's full circle! 🍂 What I love about making is how it takes every part of you, your hands, your eyes (except for the labelling where I've been watching 'Call the Midwife!' 😌) The truth is, making 100 patchouli, black pepper & vanilla candles took way longer than you see as I wasn't filming in the evenings. It's partly because I'm keeping my equipment really simple and batches really small for now. It's something I've learnt from AH and applies to life and sustainable living too. Just because you can make a big step doesn't always mean it's right. It's about being careful around what you bring into your home. 🌿 And the courier just knocked so the candles are on their way. How to make recycled candle gifts

I had so much fun making these! Totally worth the mess. 😄 Here's how to make recycled candles - extra useful when you want to give a really small gift. You'll need: • - Old candle tins • - Wicks • - Soy wax • - Your favourite essential oils (organic to protect nature) The method is simply to melt and pour. Per half bowl of melted wax, you'll need about 9 drops of essential oil - that's a very rough measure. 🌿 When picking your essential oils, think about having a top, middle and base note for a scent that lasts. In this case, 🍊 Mandarin = top • 🌳 Juniper berry = middle • ✨ Frankincense = base I'd love to know if you try this. What other handmade gifts do you like to give?
