In the kingdom of Mithila, King Janaka of Mithila had a bow of Shiva, extremely heavy & powerful: fighters could not raise it. King Janaka decided that he would marry his daughter Sita to he who mastered the bow of Shiva. Rama was invited by Janaka to attempt the feat. Rama lifted Siva's bow as if it were a toy and when he tried to shoot an arrow, the bow broke. Janaka then gave Sita to Rama. S. Andhra Pradesh, c.1720-30.
